Tinder: Finally putting yourself first.
This case is an interesting one. Basically, we were supposed to advertise an app, in this case Tinder, without showcasing whatever the app is all about while also making it a com-mercial. So how do you advertise Tinder without showing the actual dating situation?
Well, we thought about this for a while but ended up settling on showing the positive effects of having a functional dating life. So in our commercial concept film, we show the daily life of a 30 year old deadbeat who relies too much on his mother. In our film, we see him being a slob, not picking up after himself and essentially just creating mess after mess. His mother on the other hand is mostly seen picking up after him, trying to keep a clean house. Until she downloads tinder of course, which is when she starts going out more; relinquishing herself from her son’s grasp. The house falls into disarray with dishes and clothing piling up, and the closing shot is of the son looking into the camera looking completely befuddled about what to do. The film also features the song Landslide by Fleetwood Mac, and a narration detailing our protagonists emotional turmoil, done by yours truly.
The idea around the whole deadbeat mama’s boy is simple, we wanted to show that you shouldn’t be beholden by those around you, and to be able to go your own way. Now does this have to be with tinder? No, not really, but it is the modern way of dating. There’s also the small problem with Tinder being seen as a “hook-up” app, more than an app for people looking for serious relationships which we also wanted help change the perspective on. After all, the app does support the age groups these people are in, and the increase of users could only help tinder and it’s perpetually dwindling user base.
Voiceover, editing, filming and composition by yours truly. Filmed on iPhone 15 Pro.
